On a National Level
It is often easier to travel by air between most African countries, as there are limited interregional linkages via land. However, in some cases, travelling from one African country to another requires transiting through a European city.
Africa’s transport system is severely underdeveloped. The continent of Africa possesses only 2% of the world’s total railway coverage and 3% of its roadways.
For instance, Africa as a continent has fewer roadways than Poland.

Trade in Africa remains largely under-exploited. Trade between African countries currently represents only 12% of total economic activity in the region, compared to 60% in Europe and 40% in Asia.
